Screwball est un quatuor de rappeurs hardcore originaire de New York.
Composé de Poet, Solo, KL et Hostyle. A la fin des années 80, Poet fait partie du duo PHD et Solo et KL forment Kamakasee. En 1993, les quatre rappeurs s’associent sous le nom de Screwball pour enregistrer l’album “Set it” produit par Poet. Le groupe fait des apparitions sur la scène underground et indépendante avant de sortir en 1999 l’album Y2K.
Du rap brut sans fioritures, de premier choix contenant de très bons titres dont notamment le fameux « H.O.S.T.Y.L.E » ou encore le solo de Poet au titre évocateur « F.A.Y.B.A.N » (Fuck All You Bitch Ass Niggas)produit par DJ Premier.

Il aura fallu du temps pour que le funky man du DITC nous lâche un 12” d’autant plus que c’est du gros distribué par le label Handcuts. Comme à son habitude, Lord Finesse nous délivre un classique avec en feat. Grand Puba des Brand Nubian, quand ce n’est pas une combinaison Diamond D / Sadat-X; et je dois dire que ce genre de collaboration marche plutôt bien.
